It's so often the case that models belonging to a long lineage have a certain coherence to them, a sense that everything is as it should be. When it comes to the BMW M3, there is a certain amount of "why change a winning formula?" about the manufacturers' approach. Indeed, this is the first new M3 for years, and many thought the last model had little scope for improvement.
It goes without saying that this car is right up there with its Supercar counterparts in this competition when it comes to stunning levels of performance. Under the bonnet is an eight cylinder power unit (the first ever to grace an M3) riddled with the same DNA as the current F1 Sauber engine. 0-62 is archived in just 4.8 secs and there's an electronically limited top speed of 155mph (get this removed and you'll be nearer 200mph).
Fans of BMW Ms could have predicted the aggressive styling, the centrally mounted quad exhausts, the 19-inch wheels, the flared fenders, the subtle rear spoiler, and the oval mirrors. But this M3 has a few surprises. A carbon-fiber roof saves weight and lowers the center of gravity, and it also looks amazing devoid of paint. This black roof makes the M3 immediately recognizable as something special-particularly when the rest of the car is painted a light color. The M3's aluminum bonnet sports a power dome and air intakes. The M3 has ultra-modern fish-gill fender vents bisected by a chrome strip of LEDs! A perfect combination of timeless class and contemporary bling.
